Abram went forth as the LORD had commanded him, and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he left Haran.

  1. Why did Avraham take Lot along with him?

  • One of the reasons that Avraham took Lot along with him was because he had a prophecy that King David’s dynasty would come from him.

  1. Avraham minted his own universally accepted coin. Who else did so?

  • Avraham was one of only 4 people who ever minted a coin that was universally accepted. The others were Yehoshua, King David, and Mordechai.

  1. What was described on Avraham’s coins?

  • One side of the coin had an old man and woman representing Avraham and Sarah. The other side had an image of a young man and woman, representing Yitzchak and Rivkah.

  1. What did Avraham wear on his neck and why?

  • Avraham wore a precious stone around his neck. Any sick person who would gaze at it would be miraculously healed.

  1. Why did people want to do business with Avraham?

  • Not only was Avraham successful in all his businesses dealings, but anyone who would buy from, or sell to Avraham, would be successful too. People caught in a storm at sea would invoke Avraham’s merit and be saved. Sterile women who couldn’t previously conceive would have children in Avraham’s merit.
